Keswick Pavilion

2021 - Saturn Atelier

Facade Design

Camp North End launched a competition for young black architects for a pavilion design for an upcoming expansion to the offerings there. I was awarded as one of 4 winners for this competition.

I utilized the context of the site, my love for sustainability and a shared vision for a North Charlotte revival. The entrance to the pavilion is framed by railroad ties owing to the history of Camp North End and Graham Street in general with a backbone of Rail transport. Like the trains the ties carried in the past, the ties help the user traverse the design.

Inspired by the old frieze at the entrance to Camp North End, I re-imagined the patterned brick into an up-cycled plastic tile pattern. Below the rail-tie datum, the plastic tiles being to float on suspended wire while being up-lit by LED.

As this is a pavilion in a commercial area, the intent is for any business to place their sign and colors on this facade and have it not only match the brand but enhance the buying experience.

In 2024, the Halal Guys established their first brick and mortar location here.
